First, some key information on two language tests and then on the tests required for admission to Law School and Medical School, respectively.

IELTS

According to official figures presented by the British Council in Romania here, the International English Language Testing System, commonly known as IELTS, is one of the most popular English language tests in the world. More than 3 million IELTS tests are taken each year and over 10,000 organisations in 140 countries accept IELTS, including government, academic and employment institutions.

In the USA the test is accepted by a significant number of universities and colleges, so it can be an alternative to the TOEFL. Out of the 4,900+ colleges, universities and institutes in the USA, as of May 2018, over 3,330 accept the IELTS. You can search the list here and download the updated list here.

Whichever test you prefer – TOEFL or IELTS – make sure to check before registering for it that all the universities on your list will accept it.

Cambridge exams

Cambridge tests

According to the official information published by British Council Romania here, the Cambridge English Language Assessment exams “are known and recognized by schools, universities, private and public sector employers all over the English-speaking world”. However, these exams held in high esteem in Romania by English teachers and students alike prove to be of limited use for U.S. admissions purposes: most admissions offices on U.S. campuses may not be familiar with them, therefore the admissions requirements on the university websites will mention as proof of language skills a TOEFL score or an IELTS one. Comprehensive information on the exams at the above link.

LSAT

The LSAT is required for admission to Law Schools in the USA. In the USA this half-day, standardized test is administered four times a year   at the LSAT testing centers throughout the world. In Romania the test can be administered upon request, as arrangements can be made with LSAC – the Law School Admissions Council – for setting up a temporary test center. If in need, contact EDMERICA.

USMLE

The USMLE – short for the United States Medical Licensing Examination – is a three-step examination that is taken by graduates of medical schools outside the USA who want to develop a practice in the USA. As such it assesses their ability to apply medical knowledge, concepts, and principles that are core to effective health and disease management, thereby to patient care.
